White Mountain, separated from the Annapurna region by Kali Gandaki gorge, the deepest gorge in the world, includes some fifteen peaks above 7000m. This region, considered to be one of the most remote places of the Kingdom of Nepal, has abundance of Himalayan peaks, hidden valleys, high passes and sweeping vistas. The Trans-Himalayan journey is quite, peaceful and full of adventure and excitement.
Mt. Makalu is the world’s fifth highest peak. Only a few hundred trekkers and the occasional expedition visit this mountain each year. Makalu region is very close to the Everest region. It is known as Arun Valley. The Arun Valley is an unimaginable area and it is famous for both the culture and nature. This area is a naturalist’s paradise and it is teeming with many precious plants, animals and birds and is a significant part of the Himalayan environment and ecosystem.
Kanchenjunga (8598m) is on the border between Nepal and the Indian state of Sikkim. The Kanchenjunga is the world’s third highest mountain, and the first ascent was made in 1956. The culture in this reason is mixed (Sherpa, Tamang, Limbu and Rais). Limbus moved into eastern Nepal, from the Arun valley to the Sikkim border, where they remain today. They are easily distinguishable by their Mongolian features.
Mustang, formerly part of Tibet, is an enclave in the Nepalese territory. This country was opened to treks only since 1992. It is situated 50 kms behind the massifs of Annapurnas and Dhaulagiris, this legendary and secret country, comprises of vast stretches of water and of yellow and grey rocks, of cave-dwellers in the red cliffs, of immense canyons where sometime blow the violent winds and the surprisingly fortified capital of Lho Manthang. This little kingdom of Tibetan culture possesses several active monasteries that still enclose the treasures of Buddhis.
